Conservation repair
We were called in to inspect and provide an estimate for roof repairs on a slate roof due to damage caused by some very high winds.
We carried out an inspected from ground level and provided the customer a detailed estimate, which was authorised by their insurance company and a date set for works.
Once the scaffolding had been erected and an overall inspection of the roof undertaken, we discovered that the Tudor Gable was in a very bad condition. A lot of the woodwork was suffering from rot and in addition the external render panels were badly loose and cracked. In other places there were badly pitted and where previous repairs had been attempted these were failing. There was also fatiguing to the lead flashing around the gable roof.
We devised an approach to conserve and repair the heritage of this Tudor Gable and fascia board and set to work to stabilise it.
The wood work including the fascia board was treated for rot and then repaired using a two-part epoxy wood resin which is designed for use in listed buildings and traditional repairs. This included re-building a decorate fascia board solely out of wood resin.
The render panels were stabilised and filled to achieve a smoother finish and the wood work rubbed back and then two coats of a base primer applied before two topcoats of a stronghold gloss paint applied.
The necessary roof repairs were carried out along with replacing the fatigued lead flashing.
Our customers loved seeing the project develop on their dedicated photo album as access was difficult for them.
A great project and finish fit for the next stage of the buildings life.
